Oneida Health Cancer Patients to Survive and Thrive

Finding out you or a loved one has cancer, is overwhelming. Being diagnosed or treated for cancer, can also lead to many hard decisions, including financial ones. For most, a cancer diagnosis may lead to a heavy financial burden. Oneida Health has financial assistance programs which are funded through community support, donations and grants to help meet these emergent needs.

Paying for treatment can make normal choices like paying for bills or basic needs, transportation, day-care, and other daily needs, a struggle. We, at Oneida Health, under these struggles and want to offer a way to make things a little bit easier, at a very difficult time. Helping them have one less worry by making one less difficult decision is always our goal. There are two different funds which are currently available for application through the Oneida Health Foundation: The Cancer Care Fund (CCF) and Laurie’s Legacy.

Who’s Eligible for the Cancer Care Fund?

To be eligible for a grant from the fund, the grant recipient must live within the geographic radius of care of Oneida Health (Madison and Oneida counties) or receive treatment at any medical facility, including Oneida Health Cancer Care’s locations (601 Seneca Street Oneida, 604 Seneca Street Oneida).

This fund is designed to provide emergency financial assistance to patients who:

  • Are being tested for cancer or have an active diagnosis/receiving treatment
  • Live in the service area of Oneida Health
  • Have exhausted all other financial options

Grant eligibility is not limited to individuals who elect to receive treatment at Oneida Health or an affiliated program.

What Can Cancer Care Funds Be Used For:

The Cancer Care Fund can assist in a number of areas related to expenses. This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Medical bills associated with cancer treatment and/or recovery
  • Insurance co-payments including prescription coverage
  • Personal expenses that if left unpaid could prevent the individual from receiving treatment (utility bills, car insurance, transportation costs, child care fees, etc.)
  • Grocery and gas gift cards to be dispensed through the Cancer Care Center to patients as needed.

How to Apply:

The individual can apply for assistance or a caregiver can apply on behalf of the individual receiving care, if he or she is medically unable. The Financial Assistance Application can be completed electronically by clicking apply now or by completing a paper application (see links below). Who Makes the Cancer Care Fund Possible?

Funds available from the Oneida Health Cancer Care Fund are made possible by individual donors and 3rd party community fundraisers who feel passionate about the mission of the Cancer Care Fund, including the CNY Mom Prom.

What is CNY Mom Prom?

Since 2014, the CNY Mom Prom has donated its annual proceeds to Laurie’s Legacy Fund at Oneida Health to provide financial assistance to local women battling breast cancer. In honor of the event’s fifth anniversary and in response to the opening of Oneida Health Cancer Care, in affiliation with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, the CNY Mom Prom co-chairs have decided to establish The Oneida Healthcare Cancer Care Fund (Cancer Care Fund) to provide support to any cancer patient.

To date, the CNY Mom Prom has raised over $30,000 to help support local cancer patients.
