Oneida Health is an independent 101-bed acute care community hospital and a 160-bed extended-care facility (ECF) and short-term rehab facility licensed by the State of New York and operated by Oneida Health Systems, Inc., a New York not-for-profit corporation. Summary

This position has responsibility for maintaining high standards of professional nursing services in the management of an entire facility on a given shift. Special emphasis is placed on instruction, supervision and coordination of nursing personnel and all related functions of a unit. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Director or Assistant Director of Nursing Services with considerable latitude permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out assigned duties. Does related work as required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with medical staff in the care and treatment of residents;
  • Supervises the preparation of and submits descriptive medical and statistical reports, records and data;
  • Instructs and assists the nursing staff and auxiliary nursing personnel on nursing problems, clinical techniques, ward management and related activities;
  • Coordinates the services rendered by other departments in the interest of effective management and resident welfare;
  • Supervises the activities of and instructs professional subordinates on aseptic and isolation techniques in a clinical division;
  • Makes recommendations to Director of Nursing Services regarding staffing requirements;
  • Assigns nursing personnel to meet resident care needs;
  • Conducts employees orientation, performance evaluation and counseling to all nursing personnel on assigned shift;
  • Performs a variety of personnel management, clinical department and unit management and supply distribution activities;
  • Assists in the formulation and execution of policies and procedures;
  • Promotes and maintains good relationships with residents, their relatives and friends, and physicians;
  • Prepares a variety of records and reports;
  • Incumbent may provide care and/or treatment to adults and geriatric patients as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Thorough knowledge of professional nursing techniques, their relation to medical and surgical practices, and skill in their application;
  • Good knowledge of clinical division management, unit management, and supply distribution practices;
  • Ability to supervise the administration of therapeutic measures prescribed;

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Day, Evening or Night Shift as established in order to meet resident care demand.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered four year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, AND One (1) year of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse, which shall have been in a supervisory position; or
  • Graduation from an approved three (3) year school of professional nursing AND two (2) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse, and (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory position; or
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered two (2) year college with an Associate Degree in Nursing AND three (3) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory position; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined within the limits of 1, 2, and 3 above.

Licensure:

  • Eligibility for a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse; Possession of the license at the date of hire.
