Position Summary

The Cardiac Monitor Tech is responsible for the observation of cardiac monitors with the ability to recognize disturbances in cardiac rhythm and act appropriately. Also responsible for general Ward Clerk duties and assists critical care nursing staff with patient care consistent with duties performed by a nursing assistant.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Gathers appropriate data and follows through as indicated – either by documentation of such data or reporting of data;
  • Documents telemetry information as well as other pertinent information that he/she has been trained to do;
  • Obtain vital signs and weights;
  • Answer patient-call signals – route messages;
  • Collect and label specimens;
  • Assist with lifting, moving, and transporting of patients;
  • Performance of basic patient care in order to maintain personal hygiene, physical comfort, nutrition, activity, rest and elimination under the direction of the Charge Nurse;
  • Implementation of safety measures in accordance with OHC’s standards, policies and procedures under direction of Charge Nurse;
  • Provides assistance to patient and family relating to admission/discharge/transfer, hospital policies and routines;
  • Follows hospital policies/procedures relating to infection control. Adheres to universal precautions;
  • Assists with providing patient and families with psychological and spiritual needs;
  • Assumes responsibility for ward clerk and clerical tasks as needed;
  • Assists nursing staff with setup and maintenance of equipment and with routine cleaning tasks per schedule;
  • Observation of cardiac monitors, documentation of strips at least q 8-hour, maintaining telemetry logbooks, recognition of rhythm changes with appropriate action;
  • Participation in CQI activities as appropriate;
  • Training in other related duties as requested by Charge RN’s/Nurse Manager;
  • Assisting RN with patient educational needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Completion of orientation to Ward Clerk duties unless already trained in this capacity.
  • Completion of orientation to Nursing Assistant duties unless already trained in this capacity.
  • Completion of cardiac monitory course.
