Summary

This is a non-technical position involving the performance of routine housekeeping and helper tasks including but not limited to some patient care duties as well as clerical duties. The work is performed under the instruction and supervision of a qualified physical therapist and depending on the staffing patterns, a physical therapy assistant. Incumbents receive on the job training in routine physical therapy related duties and procedures. Supervision of the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class. The physical therapy aide works at the outpatient facilities and on occasion at the extended care facility. The physical therapy aide does related work as required. The schedule is days and includes 2 evening shifts until 7:00 PM.

Job Responsibilities

1. Prepares patients for treatment and transports or accompanies them to treatment areas.

2. Prepares, sets up and maintains physical therapy treatment areas and equipment relative to physical therapist’s direction.

3. Assists patients with exercise movements or changing position during treatment.

4. Records charges on each patient relative to their billing and enters data into computer; performs double checks of such charges with appropriate procedures.

5. Communicates regularly with appropriate staff regarding patient care, scheduling.

6. Is in accordance with HIPPA regulations regarding protected patient information.

7. Helps patients carry out their maintenance programs as directed by a Physical Therapist.

8. Cleans, repairs and maintains physical therapy equipment and supplies.

9. Pool testing up to 3x per day and is responsible for documentation for testing, storing of testing equipment and associated chemicals; assists in pool cleaning and maintenance.

10. Assists in maintaining the inventory of physical therapy supplies and equipment.

11. Observes patients for safety and comfort and notifies Physical Therapist or Assistant of and changes in patient’s condition.

12. Assists a physical therapist or assistant in restorative and rehabilitative treatments.

13. Maintains records pertaining to treatment plans within Medicare guidelines. Responsible for faxing, tracking, obtaining signatures, scanning and filing of such plans of care.

14. Coverage of front desk tasks including opening or closing department, preparing schedules, answering phones and maintaining the flow of business.

15. Maintains statistics of patients, visits and charges.

16. Opens and closes the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma
  • CNA or 2 years of Healthcare experience

Experience:

Experience with direct patient care and medical administrative work required

  • Ability to acquire a working knowledge of the basic principles and practices of physical therapy
  • Ability to acquire a working knowledge of the care and storage of apparatus and equipment used in physical therapy
  • Ability to acquire a working knowledge of the problems and attitudes of the ill,aged and handicapped persons
  • Ability to learn and carry out assigned duties and ability to multitask duties
  • Ability to prepare and maintain simple non- medical forms and reports
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain working relationships
  • Good communication skills and ability to understand oral and written instructions
  • Must have computer skills relative to the electronic record, scheduling and registration
  • Physical condition commensurate with demands of the position including ability to support and assist with lifting adult patients
