Oneida Health is an independent 101-bed acute care community hospital and a 160-bed extended-care facility (ECF) and short-term rehab facility licensed by the State of New York and operated by Oneida Health Systems, Inc., a New York not-for-profit corporation. The fall 2019 letter grade for OHC is a “B.”, our eighth consecutive “A” or “B”. Our hospital was also awarded 4 Stars for Patient Experience.
The second recognition is for the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award. Our hospital is among the top 10% nationally for patient safety and is 1 of only 16 hospitals in New York to receive this award for 2019. This is a nursing support position under the supervision and direction of the Nurse Manager, ED Charge Nurse, Nursing Supervisor or RN. ED Assistant renders direct care relevant to the age and developmental level of the patient in accordance with presenting complaint and within the scope of job description. She/he is also responsible for ordering and stocking of ED supplies, linen, managing repairs of equipment and similar tasks.
- Correctly identifies patients prior to performing intervention or care.
- Reports any changes or concerns of patients and families to RN.
- Observes, collects, records, and reports the following data:
- Provides safe, appropriate, and timely assistance with:
- Patient lifting utilizing proper body mechanics and equipment.
- Assist with transporting patients as directed by charge RN to and from radiology, to nursing units, etc.
- Answers call lights in timely manner
- Collects and labels all specimens or EKG’s in the presence of the patient.
- Collects information for patient valuables/clothing sheet.
- Labels patient belongings when admitted as appropriate. ( Example: pt own walker or denture cup)
- Cleans rooms and stretchers between patients and prepares room for next patient.
- Oxygen set up
- Suction set up
- Attaches patient to monitor / Applies telemetry electrodes and attaches to telemetry unit
- Discards sharps and needles in appropriate containers
- Demonstrates skill in use of computer
- Demonstrates skill in use of cardiac monitoring equipment
- Demonstrate skill set up and cleaning of all equipment in ED
- Obtain blood and blood products from lab per policy/procedure after completion of lab training.
- Recognizes emergent patient care situations and reports findings to first available professional.
- Renders safe and appropriate care in compliance with established policies and procedures for patients with/on:
- Suicide precautions
- Cardiac monitor
- Invasive tubes and lines
- Promotes overall cleanliness of the ED and replenishes stock items.
- Assists charge nurse in daily and weekly crash cart checks.
- Daily temperature checks for evidence refrigerator and room temp for waive testing supplies.
- Keeps current on unit and organizational activities and information by checking email, attending meetings, checking communication book and reading all posted information.
- Maintains BLS and all yearly mandatories and competencies
- Adheres to all infection control standards and polices
- Promotes image of positive customer service to patients and coworkers including telephone etiquette.
- Exhibits behaviors which demonstrate desire for personal and workplace growth.
- Performs other duties in this role in response to changes in today’s healthcare environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of / familiar with the healthcare environment.
