The medical laboratory is often the first stop made by healthcare practitioners of preventive medicine. Clinical laboratory results are instrumental in earlier detection and the monitoring of disease processes. Laboratory results provide clinicians/physicians with diagnostic ranges to help qualify and identify medical conditions.
Oneida Health’s Clinical Laboratory is a full service laboratory utilizing state of the art technology, and is staffed on site 24 hours a day. The laboratory is accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the New York State Department of Health. Laboratory testing is performed by Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Cytotechnologists and Histotechnologists who are all licensed by New York State. In most cases, laboratory test results are provided to clinicians the same day the specimen is obtained. The laboratory also has two Pathologists who are board certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology and hematopathology. Our Pathologists are available 24 hours a day as consultants for medical and hospital staff regarding patients and to provide emergency pathology service.
The Laboratory offers a full complement of testing services in the areas of Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, and Microbiology. We operate a full service Cytology laboratory and provide same day testing and reporting for PAP smears (Thin Prep technology). Histology and Surgical Pathology services including frozen sections support the operating room, same day surgery, and outpatient areas. Final diagnosis for biopsy specimens is available within 24 hours. Transfusion Services are also offered at Oneida Health, including prenatal, preoperative and pretransfusion testing to ensure all patients receive a safe transfusion. The Blood Bank also provides life-sustaining transfusion therapy to oncology patients on an outpatient basis. All blood products used at Oneida Health are provided by volunteer donors through the American Red Cross.
Outpatient laboratory draw services are available at several locations at times. These options offer a convenient way to have your physician-ordered lab work drawn close to home or work by an Oneida Health phlebotomist. We accept lab orders from most area physicians. No appointment is necessary. Just stop in at the draw station that is most convenient for you.
NOTE: Many laboratory tests require overnight fasting. Please be sure to check with your physician.
